The Power of the Tongue
“The tongue has the Power of Life and Death, and those who
love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). We have heard this verse thousands
of times but when it comes to practice these verse in life it becomes very difficult,
to guard our mouth, to speak always Positive, to speak always life in dead
situation, it’s quite hard to follow. The Bible does show us there is immense Power
in our tongue and in the words we speak.
Our words can make us walk in the way of perfection.
“For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not
stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle his whole body” (James
3:2). The Bible does not talk about many ways to be perfect but certain ways to
perfection and one of them is the way we speak. In any fight more than anything
our words matter it can offend or it can resolve. If we are able to tame our
words then we are walking in the way of perfection and we are called to walk in
a way of perfection like Christ did.
Words can impact whole body.
“If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey
us, we guide their whole body as well. Look at the ships also: though they are
so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder
wherever the will of the pilot directs” (James 3:3, 4). Our body has its
dreams, desires, talents, Energy and every-body is filled with God given
treasures but the way we speak it channelize it into a productive way. What the
Bible is expecting of us is to be careful of our words so that we nurture ourselves
with the right words.
Words can allow or ruin what God has planned for us.
“How great a forest
is set ablaze by such a small fire? And the tongue is a fire, a world of
unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body,
setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.” (James 3:5,
6). Words are like spark that spreads in fire, when we speak wrong words we
release spark that can ruin our now, our future and also what God has planned
for us. God always gives us free will over everything, we can choose our words
that can allow the will of God or ruin what God wants to do in our Life.
Same tongue cannot be used for Blessing and cursing
“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it
we curse men, who have been made in God’s Likeness. Out of same mouth comes
Praise and cursing, my brother this shouldn’t happen. Can both fresh water and
salt water flow from the same spring?” (James 3:9, 10, 11). The bible says in
Proverbs 18:20 “From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. Let the words of our mouth
be used to glorify God, bless, encourage and heal others. The Bible says in
(Proverbs 12:18) “The words of the reckless pierce like sword, but the tongue
of the wise brings healing.”
Words have power, presence, prophetic implications and no
geographical limitations.
When we speak we declare those words in our life and on
others as well. Speak Faith, Speak Life and at the end we will harvest good fruits.
Only by Faith we can please God and the first step of putting faith in action
is by speaking words of faith. “Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the
body, but it makes great boasts.” (James 3:5). The bible tells us to use our
tongue wisely, stop speaking words casually, carelessly and understand the
authority and impact it has.
Prayer
Heavenly Father I pray that you would help us to speak our
words carefully and wisely, understand the authority it has, use it to bless
others, let our words yield good fruits, in Jesus name Amen.
